Some children enjoy reading and others refuse to read. Reading is an excellent skill to build vocabulary, knowledge, imagination and sequencing. Reading can improve spelling and grammar and build up confidence in the child who enjoys picking up a book for pleasure.
One of the things that every parent and teacher loves to see is a child enjoying a book and reading for pleasure. As parents and teachers of children with dyslexia we are always trying to find ways to help struggling readers to enjoy reading and see it as a relaxing experience.
Dyslexia is a language-based difficulty that makes reading, recognising words, spelling and decoding especially difficult. But while dyslexia is a lifelong learning difficulty, early and effective methods can decrease its impact and help students maintain the same learning level as their peers. It is very important that students develop strategies to help them through the education system and beyond.
