Two significant changes are being introduced for the 2017 exams:
- From this year on, accommodations that were provided at Junior Certificate will be reactivated at Leaving Certificate. This will be subject to the school authority recognising that there is an identified and continuing need.
The significant change is that schools have only recommended Junior Certificate supports until now. From now on the school will also recommend Leaving Certificate supports. In most cases, this will be to reactivate the same accommodations as were provided to the candidate at Junior Certificate e.g. a spelling and grammar waiver.
2. The category of ‘specific learning difficulty’ will be broadened to a new category to be known as ‘learning difficulty’. There is no longer a need for the school or candidate to provide cognitive ability scores to confirm that a candidate has a specific learning difficulty. As there is a change to a needs based approach candidates with a general learning disability will now have greater access to the scheme.
Testing can be carried out in school for RACE using tests such as the WRAT4 or WIAT-II.
***There is no need for an updated Educational Psychological Report.
